Fujifilm are delighted to introduce the FinePix S8100fd; following in the footsteps of its predecessor the FinePix S8000fd, this model offers advanced features and huge zoom range at an affordable price.

Continuing on the success of the FinePix S8000fd, the 10 Megapixel FinePix S8100fd integrates a Fujinon 18x wide angle optical zoom fixed lens (27mm-486mm equivalent), while new Zoom Bracketing and Instant Zoom modes give the user more flexibility than ever before.

All this is housed in a stylish, lightweight yet sturdy body that proves to be an affordable alternative to the more complex DSLR system.

The FinePix S8100fd's 18x zoom lens is ready for every possible photographic challenge thrown at it, from landscapes and interiors to wildlife and sports action. Covering a range equivalent to 27- 486mm on a 35mm camera, the FinePix S8100fd's zoom offers everything from true wide angle to extreme telephoto in a single compact unit.

The wide angle is perfect for large group shots and sweeping holiday landscapes; the long telephoto lens is capable of picking out a single face on a distant stage or playing field, offering an unparalleled range of creative opportunities without the need for add-on lenses or adapters.

Super sharp results

Photographs taken at very long telephoto settings – especially with a hand-held camera – present a real challenge and can often produce unsatisfactory results. The most common causes for lost shots are camera shake (which is magnified at longer focal lengths) and focus errors caused by the narrow depth of field. It can also be difficult to keep the camera steady enough to ensure the desired subject is in the centre of the frame when the shutter is pressed.

The FinePix S8100fd uses a combination of advanced technologies to ensure perfect results even at the longest telephoto settings - no matter how challenging the shooting conditions.

Compact and versatile

Despite it’s high-power 18x zoom lens, the FinePix S8100fd is designed to be compact and easy to carry. An ergonomic grip and rubber finger pad make it easy to hold the camera steady and operate with one hand, giving you the flexibility to point and shoot smoothly and effortlessly.

High resolution LCD screen

The FinePix S8100fd gives you the option of framing the shots through a bright 2.5-inch LCD screen which boasts a 230,000 pixel resolution, and has a reinforced glass coating for scratch-free durability.

The Anti-glare coating on the surface also makes it easier to see the LCD screen in bright light so is ideal for outdoor shooting and viewing situation.

This camera offers a refresh rate of 60 frames per second; images in the viewfinder appear smooth and natural.

Flexible xD/SD/SD-HC compatibility

The FinePix S8100fd features an xD/SD compatible slot, allowing the use of either xD Picture Card, SD or SDHC media to store and transfer your photos.

This will give you the flexibility to buy the card you want, use cards from previous cameras, or choose the media that fits with your other desktop devices like laptops, PDAs or card readers.

Internal memory

The FinePix S8100fd makes it possible for you to get that picture even if your memory card is full. The 58MB of internal memory built into this compact ensures that you will never have to miss that special shot.

Think of it as your internal insurance policy for photo opportunities. With that said, the main storage for images on the S8100fd should be an additional memory card, which will allow you to accommodate almost as many images as you like.

One set of batteries –up to 500 shots

Advanced power management technology allows the FinePix S8100fd to shoot up to 500 pictures on a single set of four (optional) Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, (300 shots using non-rechargeable Alkalines).

The FinePix S8100fd allows photo enthusiasts and advanced photographers total control with manual adjustment options for the various camera settings including resolution, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and more.

The big zoom advantage

The FinePix S8100fd's 18x zoom lens – first seen on the FinePix S8000fd - is ready for every possible photographic challenge, from landscapes and interiors to wildlife and sports action.

A new Instant Zoom function captures moving subjects at high zoom settings. After zooming on a subject, a single button gives an additional 1.4x or 2x digital zoom at the centre focus region of the frame.

Zoom Bracketing performs a similar action using Fujifilm's Face Detection Technology to lock its zoom action on a subject's face automatically as it enters the shot.

Face Detection Technology

Fujifilm's award-winning Face Detection Technology has enabled a number of advanced features that will excite both novice and more experienced photographers and make getting perfect portraits easier than ever.

Fujifilm's Face Detection technology was originally developed for the company's photofinishing division, where it was used for reproducing the fine detail in people's faces in print.

It works by triangulating eyes and mouth, using an algorithm to optimise focus, white balance and exposure for up to ten faces in a single frame.

A green square surrounds the face of the primary subject on the camera's LCD screen, whilst white squares identify up to nine other subjects. Movement tracking keeps the camera 'locked on' to its subjects until they move out of the picture. The technology works irrespective of the subject's position in the frame, and is not confused by people wearing glasses.

Say goodbye to red-eye – for good

The FinePix S8100fd also features the new fully automatic red-eye removal system.

Red eye is the single biggest reason why the best portraits are ruined. The FinePix S8100fd uses Face Detection technology to find and instantly correct any red eye from every face in the frame as the shot is taken.

The system on the FinePix S8100fd will only correct redness in the pupil of the eye, not elsewhere in the picture, because the camera uses eye detection within face detection to find the pupil. While other cameras can sometimes convert lips or red jewellery to brown or blue, the S8100fd never gets it wrong.

Using Intelligent Flash

Intelligent Flash

Intelligent Flash detects subtle lighting differences within a scene and then varies the flash intensity accordingly. It also uses the high sensitivity of the FinePix S8100fdto enable the camera to use less flash, resulting in an image that displays natural tones without a washed-out effect. With an automatic pop-up flash, it's always ready when you need it.

Natural light plus Flash mode takes two photos in quick succession - one with, and one without, flash. Both photos are then displayed side by side for quick comparison so users won't miss the moment fiddling about with flash settings.

The FinePix S8100fd features Fujifilm's Dual Image Stabilisation combining mechanical sensor shift stabilisation with Fujifilm's Picture Stabilisation Technology, which uses fast shutter speeds and ISO levels of up to ISO 6400 (at 5 Megapixels), for total anti-blur protection.

As a result the FinePix S8100fd produces sharp, blur-free photographs even in low light conditions.

Super Macro Mode

The Super Macro Mode allows you to get up close to your subject, within 1cm (0.4 inch), making it easy to take high-impact full frame close-ups; used with the ‘Auction Mode’ you have the perfect combination to capture detailed imagery for your next upload to ebay.

Micro Thumbnail View

The 2.5 inch LCD can display up to 100 images simultaneously enabling you to use this micro-thumbnail view to immediately select specific photos to share with friends or to select to print.

The LCD is coated with Wide View Film, offering an expanded viewing angle that comes in handy when composing the image or in playback.

High Speed Continuous Shooting Mode

A Continuous Shooting Mode makes it easy to shoot moving subjects such as pets, children and sports. This improved feature allows high-speed shooting of up to 33 frames at 13.5 frames per second.*

With high-speed playback at 10 frames per second you can be sure you've captured all of the action.

High Speed Playback

A new high-speed preview function allows you to immediately view the entire contents of your memory card, making it easy to retrieve images. With this function, images can be played back at a speed of approx 10 frames pre second. When used to stream a sequence shot in continuous shooting mode it gives the impression that you are viewing a movie.
